Hey everyone,

Thanks for your patience as I know this update is a little bit late this month. There is good reason for that however! That is because we were taking a few extra days to prep for the launch of the PDF version of Professor Primula’s Portfolio of Palaeontology!

That’s right – the PDF IS HERE!

You should all have received a link to download your copy directly from Backerkit.

We’ve also created an editable feedback document so that all of you can highlight errors, typos, or interactions that you think may not work as intended. We always listen to all feedback and consider it, so please do let us know if you spot something!

Other digital rewards like the Battlemaps, Character Sheet, and Tokens are still to come. It'll probably take us a few weeks to get those out.

Once again, we are unbelievably grateful to all of you for helping us make this dream a reality. We're so happy that we get to create this stuff and share it with you. So please, once you get it, let us know what you think!

All the best,

Dr Barling

Hi Everyone,

I hope that you’ve all been keeping well over the last. The whole team here is sleepily recovering from a big celebration weekend at the end of the month. It was the first time that we’ve been able to gather together as one big group since we founded PalaeoGames, all in celebration of the successful D&D Beyond launch (pictured below, again!).

The main update!

We’ve had a busy month of proofreading and are nearly finished. It’ll probably be a few weeks more before we’ve have the final version, but I suspect that we’ll be expecting a version 1.0 of Professor Primula’s Portfolio of Palaeontology around the end of this month or early next month.

We had to find a way to sneak Spinosaurus into this book too ;)

We do have a very busy month lined up with things ramping up for DinoCon 2026, so it’s possible that proofreading bleeds into next month.

What is DinoCon?

If you haven’t heard of our other company – DinoCon – check it out HERE. It’s a palaeontology-themed annual convention run in the UK by me and a team of other scientists, researchers, and artists. We’ve got an outstanding lineup this year and the event is being held in the prestigious Hilton Birmingham Metropole, so you can expect a high-quality experience.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Just a brief update this month.

All the best,

Dr Barling

March 2026 Update
3 months ago – Wed, Apr 01, 2026 at 06:54:42 AM

Hey Everyone,

We hope that you've been keeping well over the last month. Here's our monthly update:

It is nearly here!

The first draft of Professor Primula’s Portfolio of Palaeontology is essentially complete – we’re just waiting on one additional piece of artwork to be finished off. At a whopping 432 pages long, this is the largest book PalaeoGames has ever produced. Phew, and what a task it has been!

We’ll soon be moving into the major proof-reading stage to ensure that everything has been transcribed from our text-only drafts to the actual book without errors. As I’ve mentioned before, we are way ahead of schedule and will use some of this extra time to bring in additional layers of text-checking to ensure that the finished book is as error-free as possible.

In the meantime, here are some more images of pages from the book, scattered throughout the rest of this update. Enjoy!

Other physical rewards.

The progress on other physical rewards, like the dice, pin badges, and the DM’s screen are all moving ahead. However, there are some points of concern that I want to communicate clearly to you.

The unfolding events in the Middle East are having a continued impact on international shipping. With the rising cost of fuel and shipping insurance, we should all expect increased costs for shipping (not just for the fulfilment of this Kickstarter, but for everything). There is also the possibility that international shipping slows down significantly in general, as ports become congested with oil tankers that aren’t able to safely reach their destinations. All of this results in uncertainty regarding the timing and cost of how products manufactured abroad are distributed. The overwhelming majority of our stuff is made here in the UK, however specialist printers in China and Hong Kong are needed for things like the DM’s screen and we don’t yet know if they’ll be impacted. We’ll keep you up to date when we find out more information.

The main lady herself!

Expanding our team

We’re bringing on a new team member this month who will be helping with our social media and marketing. His name is Zak and he has been one of our long-standing playtesters since day one (and was previously my DM). You can expect to hear more from him in the coming months on our various social media platforms.

Check out this cool chapter art for our time travel stuff!

Dr Dhrolin’s Dictionary of Dinosaurs launches on D&D Beyond this month!

Don’t forget that the 2024 version of Dr Dhrolin’s Dictionary of Dinosaurs is coming to D&D Beyond this month. It comes with complete character creation integration and integration with the VTT.  We’re honestly so excited about this and I can’t wait to start using it to build my own characters.

If you want, you can build an entire town on a single tree in La Brea.

That’s all for now. All the best,

Dr Barling

(lets squeeze in one final image!)

I love this little thing. Dyiplax is such a strange creature.

MASSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT & Feb 2026 Update
4 months ago – Tue, Mar 03, 2026 at 09:22:57 AM

Hi Everyone,

Oh boy, do we have some news for you. We'll start off with the massive announcement:

MASSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT:

PalaeoGames has partnered with Wizards of the Coast to bring Dr Dhrolin's Dictionary of Dinosaurs to D&D Beyond.

Starting next month, you'll be able to completely integrate all of your favourite dinosaur-themed gameplay with your characters and campaigns in D&D Beyond. This isn't just a simple port to the platform. We've totally remastered the entire book, fully converting it to the 2024 version of Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition with the help of Wizards of the Coast themselves.

You'll be able to use our maps, tokens, creature stat blocks, character customisation - everything - all seamless integrated for the smoothest experience possible. To say that we are excited for this is a massive understatement. It has been a huge amount of work to get it done, but will be well worth it.

You'll also find an exclusive subclass in the D&D Beyond version: the Bonesmith Fighter. This is a replacement for the Bonesculptor Artificer and shares many of the same vibes and themes, but is significantly more combat orientated. To pre-emptively answer some of your questions about the Bonesmith: It functions similarly to the Bonesculptor outside of combat (with crafting and having a Construct of Flesh) but plays very differently in combat. It is much more melee-focused and has a pool of specific spells to use. You can do some pretty powerful stuff, like replace one of your attacks with a casting of a Bonesmith spell to deal absolutely disgusting burst damage.

More news will follow about all of this later.

Feb Update:

February has been, unfortunately, a pretty harrowing month for us. The UK had the wettest January on record, and February was also extreme in its weather, with four back-to-back named storms battering the Southwest. Sadly, our we had to have emergency building repairs, as our roof did not survive the storms, and we had to vacate the property for about three weeks in total. Not a fun or cheap time at all.

Nevertheless, the rest of our team has fared much better and had a very productive month. Elly, our book designer, has been hard at work beavering away on constructing more and more pages. Below are some more examples. Again, these are works-in-progress and subject to change. Please do also let us know if you spot any errors!

There are just a few sample pages from the book, including showing off some new bits that we've not told people about. For example, Moutougezi is one of our Ultra-Gigantic beasts in the Skull Island chapter. Moutougezi is unusual in that it is the smallest Ultra-Gigantic beast and is a modified Yi. More of these will follow in future updates!

That's all for now.

All the best,

Dr Barling
